“Power Rangers” (PG-13)

Five teenagers become superheroes after they discover a hidden spaceship that gives them powers to fight off an alien threat. Bryan Cranston is their mentor Zordon, Bill Hader is the voice of his robot sidekick, and Elizabeth Banks is their main enemy.
You probably wouldn’t recognize the new rangers, except for the girls. Naomi Scott from “Terra Nova” is the Pink Ranger, and rapper Becky G is the Yellow Ranger . . . who is struggling with her sexuality in this version.
Amy Jo Johnson and Jason David Frank both scored cameos for the movie. Amy Jo played the Pink Ranger, Kimberly, and Jason played Tommy, the Green Ranger.

“Life” (R)

A sci-fi thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, and Rebecca Ferguson as scientists who are on the International Space Station when the crew brings aboard a rapidly evolving life form that caused the extinction of all other life on Mars.

“CHiPs” (R)

If you grew up watching “CHiPs” in the ’70s and ’80s, you knew it as a serious drama about two motorcycle cops named Jon Baker and Frank Poncharello, who worked for the California Highway Patrol.
Dax Shepard plays Jon Baker in the movie. He wrote and directed it too. His version is a comedy where Baker’s a rookie cop and Michael Pena is an FBI agent using the name Poncharello as his undercover identity to investigate crooked cops in the CHP.
Maya Rudolph, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Kristen Bell are also in it.
Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada played Jon and Ponch on the original show. Erik has a cameo in the remake, but Larry is hating on it pretty hard. He says Warner Brothers ruined the brand and calls it, quote, “Dumb and Dumber on motorcycles.”
